It will clamp onto surfaces up to 1.75" wide, and can rotate up to 360º in any direction. It uses a regular (nothing fancy, no need to special order) 60 watt light bulb. It is compact and very bright. And, for the person who asked, yes: the switch makes an audible click when turning on and off.I just wish it came in more colors!This is a great lamp! I ordered the one I have in 2018 and it works great still. I'm purchasing another one today for my new roommate. Obviously I would definitely recommend!!!I only have two small complaints with this.. the on/of switch is hard to get at its so small and the shade is smaller than the bulb so you can see the bulb over the shade..
